The first time we meet, we will spend quite a bit of time talking and getting to know each other. I want you to have the opportunity to ask all the questions you like, and I will have many questions for you, too. I will ask all the typical medical questions, like what health concerns do have, how is your digestion, etc. I will also conduct a head-to-toe assessment, and gather your vital signs, like blood pressure.
In my treatment style, the first treatment usually involves needles placed on the back. I will bring a lightweight-but-sturdy massage chair which many patients prefer to a standard table as it's less likely to provoke sinus congestion. The time the needles remain in place varies by treatment. During this time, we may choose to play soothing music or nature sounds, or simply relax and experience it.
Please have an area clear for me to set up my massage chair and for us to sit and talk. Generally, enough space for two people to roll out their mats and comfortably do yoga should suffice. If possible, have your living space a little bit warmer than usual, as acupuncture tends to lower body temperature. Also, please do not brush your tongue on the day of your appointment, if that is part of your usual oral hygiene routine. Please wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. Congee and other services which involve cooking will have additional requisites.
Providing acupuncture, skilled nursing, medicinal cooking, and holistic health coaching in the patient's home has many benefits to both patient and practitioner. First, it's safe and convenient for the patient to receive services without having to go anywhere. It also makes it possible to treat someone who might be unable to leave the home to seek treatment. It makes at-home post-surgery/ post-hospital recovery services possible. There are many logistical problems that can be solved this way. Treating you in your home also gives me information about your lifestyle, your resources and some of your challenges. For example, I won't give you baked oatmeal recipes if you don't have a working oven. And my dietary recommendations would also be altered if you lived behind a giant Asian grocery store. In short, treating you in your home opens up the options for care and provides useful insights.
